Reading time is estimated using the widely accepted average of 200 words per minute for adult readers. The calculation divides your total word count by 200 and rounds to the nearest minute.
The character count includes spaces by default so you get both metrics at a glance. Words are split on whitespace boundaries, so extra spaces won't inflate your word count.
ArcPanel correctly handles Chinese, Japanese, and Korean text. CJK characters are counted individually as words since they aren't separated by spaces, giving you an accurate count regardless of language.
